Overview

The Upper Dolpo Trek takes you into some of the most remote and untouched areas of Nepal. This trek is quite challenging but rewards you with sights like the turquoise blue Shey Phoksundo lake, over 800-year old monasteries, and a rugged landscape that is second to none.

With views of peaks like Kanjiroba, Kagmara, Crystal mountain to cheer you on, and fast-flowing streams to sing match you step for step, this strenuous journey at times will feel effortless. You will be witnessing barren landscapes that stretch ahead for miles as well as settlements with only a handful of houses.

The trek itself will include 17 days of walking and 22 days in total. From the first day of the trek itself, you will find yourself trekking through lush pine forests, alongside swift rivers, and tackling forested inclines. You will be instantly transported outside your regular city-life and into the remote and raw beauty of nature.

While the cascading rolling hills and the towering rocky mountains are undoubtedly the main draws, the cultural significance isn’t far behind. From Shey Gompa, Namgung Gompa, Yangjer Gumba to lines of chortens and prayer flags that dot this trip, you are bound to feel spiritually transported.

Since this trek falls in the rain-shadow area, you can go on this adventure at any point of the year. Spring and Autumn tend to offer more unobstructed views of the mountains as the skies will be much clearer.

With Nepal Social Trek & Expedition, you can be confident that the trained professionals are fully prepared to guide you in your trails. Whether it is history, culture, or architecture, our guides will be packing along their stories to ensure that you can truly understand the land you traverse. We also have porters and first aid kits handy so that we can ensure that all you have to do is enjoy your trek and marvel at the beauty around you.

For a trip that combines a visual, historical, and cultural trekking experience in one, the Upper DolpoTrek is a perfect choice.

Important Notes

  • All international trekkers must travel with a licensed guide. The trek must be arranged with a government registered trekking agency as you will be trekking through restricted regions.
  • You might want to carry a universal adapter for your charging needs as we go to more remote places. You can also purchase this in shops at Kathmandu itself.
  • Your trekking guide may, at times, decide to delay or alter the standard itinerary to help you achieve success on the trek in case of health concerns.
  • As the weather can be unpredictable, you should pack a down jacket to get comfortable even if it gets cold or rains.
  • ATMs and credit card acceptance are scarce in higher altitudes, so remember to have some cash handy for your purchases.
  • You might need to carry some passport size photographs for your permits along the way.
