Short History of Lobuche East Peak

The standard route to climb Lobuche East Peak is the Southeast Ridge. This route gained popularity after mountaineers Mr. Laurice Nielson and Ang Gyalzen Sherpa successfully reached the summit of the Lobuche East Peak from this route on April 25, 1984, around 1 pm. The South and Southeast Ridges form a peculiar rock triangle that extends from the summit to the Khumbu Glacier.

Is This Lobuche East Peak Climbing Right For You?

  • Since you will be spending most of the days at higher altitudes, the weather can be unstable. It can also affect your adventure and may likely put it to a halt. You need to make sure that you fully consider the time of the year you wish to take on this climbing adventure. The trail conditions and scenic views around the landscapes vary between seasons.
  • For more than a week, you will have to walk for 4 to 8 hours, excluding the climbing of the Lobuche East Peak. Therefore, make sure that you are ready for the challenges you may have to face throughout the trip. If you have been practicing some kind of climbing and hiking exercises prior to the journey, it would be helpful.
  • Our properly planned itinerary awards you even more sightseeing of the youngest mountains in the world. It allows an ample amount of time apart for adapting and acclimating to the altitude.
  • The tea houses accommodating you during the trekking period are pretty standard, with only basic facilities. Access to electricity to charge your electronic devices will cost you some extra bucks. On the other hand, Wi-Fi service will be available at a few locations, but connections will not be to the par. However, you can manage all the advanced facilities while staying in the 3-star hotel at Kathmandu.
  • The most important part of the expedition includes the scaling of Lobuche East Peak. The climb is not that challenging; however, it is somewhat more difficult than Island Peak Climbing and Mera Peak Climbing. Therefore, having prior climbing experience is a bonus to complete this expedition successfully.
  • The expedition includes several days of accommodation over 3000 meters, where there is the risk of being affected by Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS). You may notice shortness of breath accompanied by the mild headache, but your guide will make sure you walk slowly and steadily to let your body adapt to the thinning air.
  • You don’t have to worry about the worst-case scenario as our Sherpa guides will provide first-aid and emergency medicines to assist you. In extreme cases, we will rescue you using a helicopter. If you are uncertain about your physical ability, you need to inquire for some medical advice from the doctors before booking this campaign.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is the best time to take on Lobuche East Peak Climbing Expedition?

The best time to carry out this Lobuche East Peak Climbing Expedition is between April and May in Spring and September, October, and November in the Autumn. The Southeast ridge is the best route for you to climb this striking mountain.

What is Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS)? How can it be treated?

Acute mountain sickness is a critical health effect of high altitude prompted by your body’s reaction to a shortage of oxygen. The volume of oxygen available at sea level is twice that contained at 5000m above the sea level. Your body requires enough time to regulate your breathing to a higher altitude. You usually encounter the effect of the high altitude above 2800 meters.

To prevent AMS, you need to acclimate your body when trekking to higher altitudes. Moreover, you should intake enough fluids and take rest immediately when you feel tired and dizzy while walking.

What are the symptoms of AMS?

The primary symptoms of AMS include headache, nausea, loss of appetite, cough, and fatigue. If you feel any of these symptoms, halt the ascent for the day and rest. If your health is getting more serious even while resting, return to a lower altitude. You should take proper rest until you feel okay. You can always abandon your expedition if you are feeling unwell to complete it. Let your guides know if you are having issues during the expedition and act on their advice.

As the elevation on this expedition exceeds 6000m, the possibilities of getting altitude sickness are generally high. You will have less contact with oxygen as you summit the top of Lobuche East Peak. However, we have designed the itinerary in a way that you get a proper time to acclimatize. Our guides have years of experience handling this kind of situation as they are trained well in using first-aid kits.

Plus, our guides will carry emergency oxygen with a regulator and mask while climbing to receive immediate help when you need it. In case your situation worsens, we will carry out the emergency rescue evacuation as per the company’s rule.

Who will be my guide?

At Nepal Social Treks, we offer you some of the experienced local guides. Our expert guides have been to the relevant trekking and climbing areas many times. All the guides are docile, experienced, and authorized by the Government of Nepal.

Our guides are mountaineering professionals with extensive knowledge of the Himalayas with over 5 years of experience with at least 3 summits of Mount Everest.
