Tamang Heritage Trek

Once you land at Tribhuvan International Airport, our representative will be at your disposal, ready to greet you at the arrival gate. Our staff will be taking you to your respective hotel in Kathmandu, where you can finish the check-in formalities. Once you settle in, our staff will brief you on the outline for the trek. In the evening, you will be joining the rest of the group for an introductory welcome dinner. The first night is all about bonding and resting up.

Make sure you listen attentively as our tour guide outlines the itinerary for you. You will be gaining insight on the packing list, foods, and what to expect during the trip. You can reconfirm whether you have forgotten to pack anything essential. In case you are opting to leave some luggage at the hotel, make sure you double-check your trekking supplies before heading out on the trek.

Before we take you on your fulfilling cultural experience, this day is for appetizers. Today we will be immersing ourselves in all that Kathmandu has to offer. Right after a hearty breakfast, we will be on our way out.

We will be touring around sites and temples listed on the UNESCO World’s Heritage list. We begin at Swayambhunath and marvel at the whitewashed dome with a golden top. The all-seeing piercing eyes are bound to give you a spiritual experience as our guide skillfully narrates the cultural and historical significance of this Buddhist monument.

Next, we will be heading to Pashupatinath. This temple holds huge significance to Hindus and attracts thousands of devotees every single day. You are bound to hear prayer chants and see many devotees lighting diyas and incense to signify the temple’s sacred value.

We will be ending our sightseeing tour at Kathmandu Durbar Square. This landmark is like traveling to a time capsule in the middle of a bustling city. You will be walking through an area where a significant part of our royal history is rooted. Nearby, we have market areas like New Road and Thamel, in case you want to do some leftover shopping for your trekking gear.

After breakfast, we will be heading out on our drive towards Syabrubesi. Leaving the noisy city behind, we will be getting onto the highway and enjoying the twists and turns that show you the rolling hills trying to keep up.

With clear skies, we will already see the snowy peaks like Manaslu, Annapurna, and Ganesh Himal, creating a captivating sight. As we near our destination, we will begin to see terraced farmlands. This drive will take 6-7 hours, with plenty of rest stops for lunch and stretch out your legs.

Special note

Since the drive to Syabrubesi can take 6-7 hours, we recommend you carry some snacks and entertainment. While the views outside will surely keep your journey from becoming monotonous, you should carry some music, podcasts, or books to enjoy your drive.

Early morning, we will be making our way to Rongga Bhanjyang. You will be trekking through dense forests and descends that take you towards Goljung village. With views of peaks like Ganesh Himal, Langtang Lirung, Shishapangma on the horizon, you will be making your way towards Gatlang.

The trek here will take you about 4-5 hours of walking. Gatang is a small Tamang village with rows of traditional stone houses. On this day’s trek, you will get to see some local monasteries, wide terraced fields, and the beginning of your Tamang heritage trek.

After breakfast, we will be making our way to Tatopani. As you leave Gatland, we will be following a descent into a forested area. Here, you will find yourself surrounded by oak and sal trees as well as juniper bushes. Magnificent views of Ganesh Himal and Langtang Ranges also keep our spirits up.

Once we cross Chilime, we will be trudging along a suspension bridge to reach Gonggang. You will be trekking through more forested trails and inclines to reach Tatopani. This day’s trek vows to be rewarding as you reach a natural hot spring. You can soak into the hot water and let it ease away all the strain. This day’s trek will involve 5-6 hours of walking, but you will still be ending the day feeling relaxed and replenished.

On this day’s trek, we will be heading towards the lively village of Nagthali. The trail takes you through zigzagging trails that weave in and out of forested routes. First, we will be reaching the Brimdang village, where we will be stopping for lunch. Beyond this, you will be following an incline that will take you to Nagthali.

Nagthali will be the highest point of our trek. It is a vast grassland with spectacular views of Langtang, Kerung, and Ganesh Himal. Standing at this point will give you the true countryside feel. As you arrive, you can savor a delicious masala chiya (tea) that adds an authentic bonus.

This day’s trek will take you 5-6 hours, but if you’re still up for it, you can walk down to Thuman village. The locals like to sing and dance in the evening, and you, too, can be a part of it!

This day’s trek starts fairly easily. You will be walking along a flat trail and descending to Timure. The land beneath your feet is part of an ancient trade route to Tibet. Our trails will lead us to another Tamang village of Briddim. On your way, you will be trudging on well-defined trekking routes as well as forested trails.

The architecture around you flaunts a heavy Tibetan influence. This day’s trek will take you about 5-6 hours. The view ahead will be of Langtang Himal, while around you rows and rows of stone houses are spread over the hilltop village.

On this day, we will be following a relatively easy walk. You will be walking along the Bhote Koshi River, enjoying the peaceful walk being one with nature. At a point, we will be crossing this river where the vast fields of paddy and corn will welcome us.

The descent here will take you to Syabrubesi. The walk here will only take you about 4 hours. So you have the rest of the time free to mingle with the locals. You can stroll by shops and look into buying some memorabilia to remember this trip.

After breakfast, we will be getting on our private transport to head back to Kathmandu. You will see many small villages, towns, and cascading hills to celebrate your successful trek outside the window. If the skies are clear, you will be able to see the snow-capped peaks bidding you goodbye.

The drive will take about 6-7 hours. Once you arrive at Kathmandu, you have the rest of the day for yourself. You can choose to stroll through the lively streets of Thamel or utilize this time to rest up and simply relive your trek through your camera roll. Our staff will be picking you up at the hotel to take you for your farewell dinner.
