Mt. Cho Oyu Expedition ( Tibet Side )

Mount Cho Oyu

At an altitude of 8201 meters, Cho-Oyu is located on the Nepalese and Tibetan border. Technically it is not a difficult climb with a relatively easy descent. We do suggest, however, that only climbers with high altitude experience attempt summating this mountain. Due to the acclimatization needs and unpredictable weather conditions of Cho-Oyu, we have created an itinerary that begins with 14 days of sightseeing, acclimatizing and preparation to ensure maximum enjoyment over the 33-day trip. Always with safety as our first concern, our climbing team will provide full logistical support and determine the appropriate climbing route to ensure a successful summit.

And you will be richly rewarded for reaching the summit -- views from the top of Cho-Oyu are some of the most fantastic in the world. Mt. Everest (just 645 meters higher) is so close you can almost touch it.

Our tour will begin in Kathmandu where we can prepare for our trek and also, time permitting, see some of the famous sights in the Kathmandu Valley. On the third day we fly to Lhasa (3650 m) where we spend three days acclimatizing and sightseeing. On the seventh day we take the Friendship Highway to Tingri (3 days) via Gyantse (an ancient trading hub of Tibet) and Shigatse (the second largest city in Tibet and the the seat of the Panchen Lama the second most holiest man after the Dalai Lama). We then drive to Cho-Oyo Base Camp, where our climbing team awaits us. We spend two days at the Base Camp, again acclimatizing and preparing for the trek. Finally, on day 13 we begin our climb towards the summit.

We include bottled oxygen, a mask and a regulator for each summit bid. Additional oxygen can be purchased if necessary.
